All registered employers receive unlimited interview booth space (subject to availability) as part of the registration package. The booths are curtained units located in the Interview Hall, each containing one table and four or five chairs. The majority of registered employers use this space for their interviews.

Private Interview Rooms are hotel parlors, available to Job Center registrants for an additional fee. Private Interview Room space is limited and is assigned in order of request.

No. All registered Annual Meetings participants may interview as invited without registering with the Job Center. However, an Annual Meetings name badge is required for admittance to all Annual Meetings activities.

No, it does not. The Job Center facilitates communication between candidates and employers. It is not a placement service.

The Job Center will be located in the Northwest Hall, Hilton Chicago at the AAR Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The dates of the meetings are October 31-November 3, 2008.

All registered candidates have the opportunity to file a CV. Registered employers will be able to view the CVs online beginning Friday, August 15, 2008 and in print at the Job Center. The CVs will be organized according to job classification. Candidates are not required to submit a CV.

We assign all candidates and jobs a unique identifier that allows for confidential communication between candidates and employers. This ID, sent by e-mail in October to the institution's onsite contact, establishes your ability to communicate clearly with candidates.

Retrieving Messages: Messages for employers are left at the Message Center, where they will be distributed to mailboxes marked with the corresponding employer ID number. Employers are expected to check the mailbox for each registered job periodically throughout the day. Employers are expected to respond to applicant messages, and may opt to use the courtesy responses listed at the bottom of the message form. All materials in Employer mailboxes are confidential and only authorized persons may retrieve or review their contents.

Leaving Messages: Messages may be left for candidates at the Message Center. Job Center staff will place a notice (a card with the Candidate ID number) when an employer has left a message for a candidate. Candidates must present their ID number and a picture ID in order to retrieve their messages.

Interview Hall Space: Employers will be able to reserve booth space during the registration process beginning April 21. The booth space in the interview hall is limited and time is assigned in order of request. Booths not in use at the assigned time may be reassigned. If you find that you will not be using your booth at the reserved time, please alert Job Center staff so that others may use it.

Private Interview Rooms: Employers can request Private Interview Rooms for an additional fee during the registration process. These rooms are limited and will be assigned in order of request. The rooms are located elsewhere in the Annual Meeting facilities. Job Center policies apply to interviews in these rooms as well as in the Interview Hall. If an applicant is uncomfortable meeting in a Private Interview Room, he or she may alert you and request that the interview be scheduled in the Interview Hall, without prejudice.

Candidates with interviews in the Interview Hall wait in the Candidate Lounge. Employers meet candidates at the lounge to greet and escort them to the assigned space. When an interview has been scheduled in a Private Interview Room, candidates will check in at the Job Center and be sent to the assigned room.

Job Center Guidelines

All registrants agree, by their use of the Center and its services, to review and uphold both guidelines for interviewing and other policies and procedures.

The American Academy of Religion and Society of Biblical Literature have established these interview guidelines:

1. Every job opportunity for which interviews are to be held at the Annual Meeting should be advertised in Job Postings.
2. All interviews at the Annual Meeting, including interviews by pre-arranged appointments, should be conducted in space arranged by the Job Center.
3. No interviews are to be conducted in sleeping rooms.
4. Interviewees should be notified in a timely fashion of the location of the interviews.
5. Interviewers should communicate in writing to interviewees that, if they request to be interviewed in a different place, it will be arranged without prejudice to their candidacies.
6. If any candidate requests within a reasonable time that an interview be moved to a different venue, the interviewers should make a good faith effort to comply, and notification should be given to the Job Center staff that such a change was requested and what the disposition was.
7. Interviewees and interviewers are free to enlist the mediatorial services of the Job Center staff in the event of differing views of what compliance with these guidelines entails.
8. Grievances of any kind regarding interviews conducted at the Annual Meetings may be filed with the Job Center, and will be referred to the Career Services Advisory Committee for consideration.
9. Interviewers should notify interviewees that they must be registered for the Annual Meeting. Interviewees are not required to registered for the Job Center.

It is the expectation of the American Academy of Religion that all employers will adhere in good faith to applicable federal, state, and local regulations concerning affirmative action, equal employment opportunity (EEO), and non-discrimination. Furthermore, these societies encourage employers to take affirmative action initiatives.
